Demand Sen. Fetterman's Resignation

Demand Sen. Fetterman's Resignation
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of Pennsylvania, call on Senator John Fetterman to resign from the United States Senate.
Senator Fetterman was elected by a multiracial, working-class coalition across Pennsylvania—from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh to Erie, Scranton, the Lehigh Valley, and rural communities—who believed he would be an independent voice for everyday people, not another Washington politician drifting right once safely in office.
As mayor of Braddock and as a candidate, Fetterman presented himself as someone who understood deindustrialization, poverty, racial injustice, and the cost of political cowardice. His record in the Senate has instead revealed a pattern of votes and statements that betray the values of the Pennsylvanians who put their trust in him.
1. Normalizing Trump and Trump-Style Authoritarianism
Pennsylvania has been at the center of attacks on democracy—from election denial to political violence. Voters here did not send a senator to Washington to downplay the threat Donald Trump poses or to legitimize Trump-aligned politics. Any willingness to normalize or excuse this movement is a betrayal of a state that has repeatedly rejected authoritarianism at the ballot box.
2. One-Sided Support for Israel at the Expense of Human Rights
Pennsylvanians include Jewish, Muslim, Christian, and secular communities who overwhelmingly believe in human rights and international law. Senator Fetterman’s refusal to acknowledge Palestinian suffering or support accountability for documented abuses has alienated voters who expect moral clarity—not blanket militarism—from their elected officials.
3. Voting to Fund ICE Despite Its Record of Abuse
Immigrant communities are essential to Pennsylvania’s economy, culture, and future. By voting to continue funding ICE—an agency with a long record of family separation, detention abuse, and civil-rights violations—Senator Fetterman has turned his back on the very communities that power Pennsylvania’s farms, hospitals, warehouses, and service industries.
4. Dismissing Allegations of War Crimes
Pennsylvanians expect seriousness and accountability from their leaders, especially on matters of war and peace. Senator Fetterman’s dismissive comments regarding allegations of war crimes, including remarks connected to Pete Hegseth, undermine the basic principle that no one is above international law.
5. Soft-Pedaling Dangerous Trump Cabinet Appointees
Pennsylvania voters understand what is at stake when extremist or unqualified figures are elevated to positions of power. Senator Fetterman’s willingness to minimize or normalize Trump’s cabinet appointees signals indifference to threats against labor rights, civil liberties, democratic governance, and the rule of law.
Pennsylvanians did not elect a senator to side with authoritarianism, militarism, or cruelty.
We elected someone who claimed to stand with working people, immigrants, marginalized communities, and those harmed most by government abuse of power.
Senator John Fetterman no longer represents the values or priorities of the Pennsylvania voters who sent him to Washington. For the good of the Commonwealth and the country, we call on him to resign.
