Every resident deserves to live in safe and secure houses, yet our apartment complex has continuous issues with mold contamination, leaking AC units, and improper wiring that pose significant risks to our health and safety. Additionally, the landlord's constant imposition of arbitrary rules, many of which are not even stated in our leases or handbooks, has created an intimidating environment for all residents. Instead of focusing on resolving the current issues, it feels as if we are paying for additional unnecessary costs due to factors beyond our control.

In the U.S., housing authorities reported more than 1.2 million cases of mold-related complaints in apartments in 2019, showing that this is a prevalent issue affecting tenancy health nationwide [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019]. Furthermore, a National Association of State Fire Marshals report found that faulty wiring accounts for over 25% of residential fires. We are living in dangerous conditions that need urgent actions.

We are calling upon local authorities, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the property management to take immediate action to address our concerns. Proper steps must be taken to repair the issues of mould, plumbing, and wiring in our apartments. Landlord practices should be reviewed, and any form of intimidation or harassment should be stopped.
