**Demand a Retrial:** 
     I sat in the courtroom and witnessed the grave injustice unfold as Alvin Thomas  was wrongly convicted of first-degree murder. Despite presenting substantial evidence supporting claims of self-defense and a potential lesser charge of second-degree murder, justice was not served. This petition is personal to me because I cannot stand idly by while an innocent man pays the price for defending himself. Alvin Thomas, a father remains wrongfully convicted of first-degree murder despite overwhelming evidence suggesting a rightful claim of self-defense or, at most, a lesser charge of second-degree murder. This tragic miscarriage of justice is a stark reminder of the systemic flaws in our legal system that must be addressed.
 
      On that fateful day, Alvin Thomas found himself in an unforeseeable and life-threatening situation. Importantly, it should be noted that Alvin was involuntarily intoxicated, which impaired his judgment and response during the incident. This critical detail was not sufficiently considered during his trial. Instead of evaluating the complexities of the situation, the prosecution portrayed Alvin as a cold-hearted individual, leading to an unjust conviction.       Alvin approached two Asian individuals in China town, located in Chicago seeking assistance. Tragically, his intentions were misunderstood, and they assumed he meant harm, leading to a confrontation in which he acted in self-defense. This incident has now led to a wrongful conviction, stripping him of his freedom and painting a distorted picture of the events that took place.
 
 **Evidence Ignored:** 
Forensic evidence and expert testimonies corroborated Alvin's claim of acting in self-defense, yet these were dismissed in court.

 **Legal Oversights:** 
Several legal oversights occurred, from the inadequate consideration of involuntary intoxication as a factor in Alvin's defense to the jury not being allowed to consider lesser charges despite the compelling evidence. This petition aims to highlight these grave errors and push for a fair retrial where justice might finally prevail.

The unjust treatment of Alvin has caused ripples of fear and injustice among community members as well as those detained with him. We are worried that if Alvin's wrongful conviction stands, it sets a dangerous precedent.
