On May 30th, 2026, I was personally contacted by a bigoted, anti-Islamic racist, and our local downtown mosque in Evansville, Indiana received a threatening message. This appalling event is a direct consequence of the destructive rhetoric espoused by Indiana Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith. His offensive statements, including calling Islam a "demonic death cult" on May 21, 2026, and his subsequent remarks on June 1, 2026, where he claimed to "hate Islam but love Muslims," spread harmful and divisive ideologies that have no place in our society.

Lieutenant Governor Beckwith’s comments exemplify a dangerous mindset that can lead to real-world harm. The incendiary language used by people in positions of power can incite prejudice and hatred, threatening the safety and dignity of entire communities. It undermines the principles of inclusivity and respect that are cornerstones of American values. His remarks not only endanger individuals who identify with Islam but also contribute to the stigmatization of communities that are vital to the rich cultural fabric of our state and nation.

It is essential that public officials uphold the values of equality, respect, and non-discrimination - principles that are crucial for fostering peace and cooperation in society. By labeling an entire religion in such a derogatory manner, Lieutenant Governor Beckwith has shown a blatant disregard for the responsibilities entrusted to him by the voters of Indiana.

We demand that Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith resign from his office immediately. His continued presence in a position of political authority is a constant reminder of intolerance and hatred. It sends a dangerous message that discrimination is acceptable if served under the guise of personal beliefs. The people of Indiana deserve a leader who embraces diversity and promotes unity, rather than division.

Now is the time for all of us to stand together and reject any form of bigotry and racism. Let us demonstrate that our communities will not tolerate hate-mongering from any political figure, regardless of their rank. We must protect the sanctity and safety of all religious communities by insisting on accountability from those in power.
