Demand Replacement of Riverwood Apartments Staff and pay to move us for Unjust Treatment
The Issue

My mother is an 81-year-old legally blind disabled woman reliant on oxygen and confined to a wheelchair from a stroke, and I have been unjustly targeted by the current staff at Riverwood Apartments in Temple, TX managed by Richmark Properties, Inc. This unprofessional behavior escalated to the point where our lease was falsely terminated.
My Mother believed that she was going to be homeless 3 days before her 81st birthday. Luckily, I could contact the owner of Richmark Property Management Inc. and stopped our lease termination. However, I have made very little headway concerning all the other issues on the property and our intention to be moved from the property. The negative impact on my mother and her health is immeasurable!
The management's actions were not only unethical but immoral. They have continually ignored our complaints about pest infestation and over-billing of water utilities. I repeatedly raised concerns about their targeted use of their lease and vehicle policy and violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Instead of addressing these issues, they responded with continued harassment by the manager and very little communication or action from Richmark Properties Inc.'s upper management. I have also received physical threats from an employee in their maintenance department!
The manager and office manager used their vehicle policy to target individuals with expired registrations, which cost us $350.00, which I could fortunately borrow, or I would have lost my vehicle to the towing company, all while the employees all have an expired vehicle registration. The manager has refused to have them towed. Most employees live on the property, making them accountable to the same policies as all the other tenants.
This is not just our struggle; it reflects a broader issue affecting many tenants, They are afraid to voice their concerns due to fear of retaliation. According to data from the National Housing Law Project (NHLP), such instances are alarmingly common across America. I have never been afraid to voice my opinion especially when it involves unjust treatment!
We demand that Richmark Properties Inc., replace the current staff at Riverwood Apartments immediately and move us to a non-Richmark property at their expense, reimbursements for 5+ years of pest control fees, 350.00 for my towing expenses, and replacement of all of our soft furnishings, including my mothers 50in TV that were all ruined by roaches, for their blatant disregard for tenant rights and laws protecting disabled individuals. By doing so, we can ensure that all residents live in a safe environment free from harassment or discrimination.
Please sign this petition today if you believe in fair housing rights for all residents regardless of age or disability status.
Sincerely,
Michael Barton
