Demand Reliable Water Pressure for Starkey Ranch Irrigation Systems

Demand Reliable Water Pressure for Starkey Ranch Irrigation Systems
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of Starkey Ranch (Pasco County), are experiencing significant disruptions to our home irrigation systems due to chronically low water pressure in the reclaimed water distribution network. Reclaimed water is essential for maintaining our landscapes, supporting local conservation efforts, and complying with county guidelines on potable water use. However, inconsistent pressure—often below 20 PSI during peak hours—has led to:
- Ineffective irrigation, resulting in brown lawns, dying plants, and wasted water.
- Increased costs for homeowners, including repairs and replacement of landscaping etc.
- Environmental harm, as underperforming systems encourage overuse of potable water alternatives.
Pasco County's reclaimed water system, while a valuable resource, is failing to deliver the reliable pressure needed for the growing number of homes relying on it. This issue affects thousands of families, exacerbating water scarcity concerns in our community. We urge immediate action to investigate and resolve these pressure deficiencies through infrastructure upgrades, maintenance, or alternative solutions.
We call on Pasco County Utilities and the Board of County Commissioners to:
- Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the reclaimed water system within to identify pressure bottlenecks.
- Implement short-term fixes, such as booster stations or line flushing, and long-term investments in infrastructure to ensure consistent adequate PSI delivery.
- Provide transparent updates to residents via public meetings and an online dashboard tracking progress.
- Offer compensation or rebates for affected homeowners who have incurred repair costs due to low pressure.
By addressing this, Pasco County can uphold its commitment to sustainable water management and enhance quality of life for its residents.
