I am a resident of Ohio and a victim of a faulty system. Together with my wife, we underwent extreme stress and financial difficulties due to false allegations reported to Child Protective Services (CPS) by a family member. The effect of this extends beyond personal turmoil, resulting in the inefficient use of taxpayer money.

The pain induced by flawed procedures and unjust penalties in the current CPS system needs to be addressed. On a national level, the American Public Human Services Association in 2017 reported that more than 3.5 million children were subject to at least one investigation or alternative response. Overcrowding this system with false allegations diverts resources from genuine cases of child abuse, thereby causing harm to those who urgently need protection.

This petition seeks to provoke changes in Ohio's child protective services, increasing penalties for those who maliciously lodge false reports and reforming corrupt practices. By doing so, we can ensure that false reports are discouraged, preserving the system's integrity and focusing efforts to protect our children genuinely.
