Demand Reduction of Tuition for International Students

The Issue

Being an international student, I am a firsthand witness to the burdensome costs of tuition. High tuition costs pose a significant barrier to many, discouraging them from pursuing higher education and, in turn, limiting their academic and career growth. This disproportionate burden on international students creates an imbalance and negatively impacts the diversity of our learning communities.

In the United States, international students often pay up to three times more tuition than resident students (source: U.S. News and World Report). This financial strain deters many potential students and widens the education gap even further.

International students are an important asset for countries. Economically, our study and daily consumption support many jobs and contribute to the national GDP. Our academic research and advancement push technological development in fields such as AI and engineering. The inflow of talent helps countries to increase their global competitiveness. We should be treated fairly.

Higher education should not be a privilege for the wealthy or domestic students only. It should be accessible, fair, and encouraging for all those who wish to grow academically, professionally, and personally.

With the aim to foster inclusivity and remove financial barriers in the path of education, we urge institutions to take immediate action and reduce tuition for international students. By doing this, institutions will promote diversity, growth, and opportunity for all students, regardless of their national origin.
