Demand Reconsideration of the Closure of West Calder Community Playgroup

The Issue

My daughter is among the many children between the ages of 2-5 who attend the West Calder Community Playgroup. As a parent who heavily relies on the services the playgroup offers, the news of its impending closure has hit us hard. This playgroup has established itself as a vital resource in our community, offering enriching activities and social experiences for our youngest community members.  This play group has been a cornerstone of our community, offering invaluable support and joy to countless families over the years.

Many children have recently settled in and started attending, and they will likely continue together through nursery and primary school. This continuity will greatly ease their transition.

We understand that the decision to close the playgroup has been made with consideration, but we strongly believe that our children and families will be detrimentally impacted by this action. The significance of early socialisation and play cannot be overstated.

There are no other playgroups in the surrounding villages within walking distance, meaning that parents and guardians will have to rely on buses or cars to travel to alternative venues. This will not only add unnecessary costs but also create inconvenience for many families.

Moreover, high school students who are studying childcare participate in the playgroup as part of their coursework. This practical experience is crucial for their education and development.

Please, support us in our fight to keep West Calder Community Playgroup open. Sign our petition today.
