This petition calls out Quinn Buckner, the current chair of the Board of Trustees at Indiana University, to end nepotism hires and to dismiss the Head Basketball Coach Mike Woodson. Nepotism disenfranchises meritorious candidates and has long-term detrimental effects on the quality of Indiana University Men’s Basketball. The hiring of Mike Woodson, despite his lack of significant coaching experience in college basketball, substantiates these concerns. A significant precedent has been established in the case of the University of California, where nepotism in hiring practices led to a 10% decrease in overall staff satisfaction (McGuire, 2019). Therefore, we urge Quinn Buckner and decision-makers at the university to consider this petition and end nepotism hires, starting with the reconsideration of Coach Mike Woodson’s position.
