Demand Punishment for Charlotte Dujardin for Horse Abuse

The Issue

As a deeply concerned individual who represents a large group who believes in the dignity and rights of every creature, I am appalled and disgusted by the actions of British equestrian Charlotte Dujardin, an Olympic medalist. Recently, she was caught whipping a horse violently, and verbally abusing the animal. Animal cruelty is an unacceptable, horrendous act that should be utterly condemned, regardless of the perpetrator's status.

Dujardin's portrayal in the media has been a sparkling one so far; she is a three-times Olympic dressage champion, holder of all major titles in the sport, and was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in late 2016. But these accolades stand in stark contrast to the callous cruelty she exhibited towards a defenseless horse.

It is necessary to reevaluate such a figure, and question if a person who displays such harm towards a creature should be revered or instead denounced and stripped off her honours. It's not just a matter of her individual actions either; it's the precedent this sets, the message it sends to aspiring athletes or horse enthusiasts. It's also a representation she sets for her country and monarchy who have appointed her with such status.

By letting this behaviour pass without consequence, we indirectly consent to such acts of cruelty. This is not just about ensuring justice for one abused horse; it's about standing against animal abuse in all forms and sending a strong message that it is not acceptable, regardless of who the offender is. The video in question was allegedly 4 years ago when Charlotte Dujardin was  an estimated 35 years of age, old enough to know better and without a doubt able to do better.

We call upon the UK's governing bodies of sports, International Olympic committee and the honours system to reevaluate Charlotte Dujardin's Olympic medals and her CBE title. This is an important stand against animal cruelty. We urge you to take action immediately. Please lend your voice to this important matter and sign the petition.
