Demand Property Tax Relief for Prolonged Street Construction

The Issue

I am a resident deeply affected by the incessant street construction in our area. There have been instances when it was impossible even to leave our homes due to high water in the streets. This ongoing disruption of our daily lives is not only inconvenient but also poses a risk to our safety and well-being.

In these conditions, relief in the form of property tax abatement seems only fair. According to the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, property tax relief can come in various forms, one of which is abatements, which are temporary reductions in tax bills to compensate property owners for disruptions or unforeseen circumstances (NTUF, 2020 report).

Many of us feel it's unjust to pay full property tax loads when our quality of life is significantly hampered by issues far beyond our control. While construction is essential for community development, extended timelines without adequate contingency measures for the affected residents are unacceptable.

We believe that it's time for local governments to acknowledge the impact of these prolonged disruptions on residents and offer corresponding tax relief. With collective support, we can initiate a change that brings fairness and understanding to our situation.

We urge you to join us in our petition for property tax relief due to extended street construction. Sign today, and let our local government know we need their support!
