Demand President Christina Paxton to step down from Brown College

The Issue

On a deeply personal note, I find it incomprehensible that in the wake of a major shooting incident at Brown University, our President, Christina Paxton, demonstrated such a glaring lack of leadership and accountability. At a pivotal press conference, held six hours after the tragic event, President Paxton was notably unable to provide any insights into why students were still confined to their classrooms when they were in imminent danger. It is unjustifiable and deeply unsettling.

Since that tragic day, rather than acknowledging the deficiencies in leadership and addressing the critical issues that led to such an oversight, the actions taken by President Paxton have been to dismiss employees of lesser status. Such decisions reflect a grave misjudgment and have only intensified the pain and frustration of our community.

The safety and well-being of students should be a top priority for any educational leader. A leader's fundamental role is to protect and advocate for those entrusted to their care, and to own up to their responsibilities, especially in their moments of failure. However, it appears that instead of demonstrating transparent leadership, there has been a prioritization of image over substantial change.

This institution, full of potential and promise, needs a leader capable of instilling trust and initiating reforms that genuinely prioritize student safety and rectitude. We need someone ready to take immediate and effective action in times of crisis, not an individual who sidesteps accountability.

Therefore, I'm calling on the Board of Trustees at Brown University to take decisive action and request the resignation of President Christina Paxton. Brown deserves a leader who embodies responsibility, integrity, and the capability to guide through difficult times with both empathy and effectiveness.

Please join me in calling for a change in leadership at Brown University. Sign this petition to ensure the security and future of our students are handled with the seriousness and respect they deserve.
