As a resident of Ontario facing the damaging impacts of skyrocketing mobile home land leases, I'm calling on the citizens of our province to join me in urging Premier Doug Ford to address a critical injustice in our housing law. In the past two years alone, mobile home land leases for new tenants have surged massively, increasing by over 80%. This drastic inflation makes homes unsaleable and unaffordable for potential buyers, contributing further to the current housing shortage.

This troubling situation is largely the result of a loophole in the Landlord/Tenant Act that allows corporations to bypass the statutory limit on rent increases. As a result, corporations are exploiting this loophole to inflate prices unjustly, putting the livelihoods of Ontario's tenants at significant risk.

With the cost of living rapidly increasing in Ontario amidst a housing crisis, this loophole offers corporations an unfair advantage that further exacerbates the issue. Therefore, our focus should be on creating affordable and sustainable living opportunities for everyone.

Thus, we are petitioning Premier Doug Ford to enact changes that repeal this biased section of the Landlord/Tenant Act. By addressing this legislative flaw, we can help create a more just and equitable housing market in Ontario.
