The Issue

Every day, I visit Happy Mount Park in Morecambe, Lancashire, with bags of peanuts and sunflower seeds. I meet my little friends—squirrels who have become like family to me. They have names, distinct personalities, and bring joy and light to an otherwise ordinary day. Seeing them scamper around, full of life, is a small blessing in my daily routine.

But recently, darkness has fallen over this park. Groups of thoughtless individuals, armed with catapults, are wreaking havoc on these innocent creatures. The sights and sounds of my furry friends maimed and killed are heart-wrenching. These so-called "humans" bring harm to wildlife that only wish to survive and thrive in their natural habitat.

The importance of this park's wildlife to our community cannot be overstated. Happy Mount Park offers a little escape from everyday life, a place to enjoy nature, and to share memorable moments with family and friends. The wildlife here, with the squirrels at the forefront, is crucial to the park's charm and appeal. Each attack on these creatures is not just an isolated act of cruelty but a stain on our community's conscience.

We cannot stand by and let this continue. It is essential that Lancashire Police take immediate and effective action by implementing regular patrols within the park. Visible police presence can deter these cruel acts, ensuring the safety of wildlife and securing peace of mind for park visitors.

We have already seen the evidence, caught on film by avid nature lover @kevthesquirrelguy on YouTube, where acts of cruelty are captured, breaking the hearts of viewers who urge for action.

Time is of the essence. Every minute we delay is an opportunity for these malicious acts to occur. With your support, we can make a difference.

Sign this petition and join me in calling upon Lancashire Police to protect our beloved wildlife by patrolling Happy Mount Park regularly. Together, we can ensure that these innocent creatures are given the protection they deserve, reinstating this park as a safe haven for both wildlife and the community.
