Thank you for your continued support towards saving the 272 trees at risk in Lafayette. We wanted to inform you of a major development and to ask for your involvement. Yesterday, Save Lafayette Trees filed a complaint in Contra Costa Superior Court against the City of Lafayette and PG&E asking for the court's reversal of the March 27 tree-cutting agreement. Not only did the City fail to notify residents of the plans to circumvent their own tree protection ordinances, both the City and PG&E bypassed very important environmental review regulations, including CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act). These regulations are designed specifically to protect our neighborhoods and parks from expedited projects by profit-driven entities such as PG&E. We have persistently worked with the City since we learned of the agreement's existence in early April. Many of you have written heart-felt petition comments expressing dismay and dissatisfaction. The community is united. But unfortunately the City hasn't reversed their agreement and continues to work with PG&E behind the scenes on an inevitable march towards ultimate tree removal later this year. We need your support. We have negotiated a low fee structure with one of the best environmental lawyers in the area, Stephan Volker. The lawsuit is estimated to cost between $20k-$50k. Would you be able to make a donation to help end the City's agreement with PG&E? Gina and I have already contributed thousands of dollars, and we would appreciate your involvement.
