Good news, PG&E has delayed the schedule to remove trees from mid-June to late summer. However, we are still waiting for PG&E confirmation that their tree removal list will be significantly reduced. We're also waiting for answers to major pipeline safety questions raised by hundreds of residents -- these are the same concerns asked by other communities across the state. We must have these answers before any action is taken in Lafayette.
UPDATES:
* To date, PG&E has not answered our basic questions: why is there a 4' exposed section of pipeline in Lafayette if you walk the line annually? Where are the automatic shut-off safety valves? Why aren't you using the latest technology to do in-line inspections? Why can't you do pressure testing?
* Save Lafayette Trees remains committed to the rights of individual property owners. We are providing support and working one-on-one with residents who will be disproportionately affected by tree removals.
* While the City looks at rescinding the agreement, we are working with PG&E to identify trees of significant value to the community. Walks to discuss each tree began on the Lafayette/Moraga Trail and will continue in other areas with the support of EBMUD and EBRPD.
* Posting signs for removal on trees remains an issue. We are working on getting approval from all parties involved to fulfill this petition demand.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
* Write to PG&E directly: Angus Coyle, Director, Community Pipeline Safety Initiative at: S2CR@pge.com. Copy cityhall@lovelafayette.org and savelafayettetrees@gmail.com.
* Share this petition on Facebook, Twitter, etc. Every post counts! We will have over 2000 signatures this week.
* Contact savelafayettetrees@gmail.com if you'd like to post signs on your private property or join our mailing list.
Many Lafayette residents moved here because of the trees. We can no longer take their existence for granted, and must fight for their ability to stand in our neighborhoods for generations to come. Resist the PG&E excuses regarding trees, and join us as we demand true safety answers and protections, along with the preservation of what we so clearly and passionately value.
