Curtis Ray Brooks, my cousin and, more importantly, my brother, was granted parole on March 11th, 2025. He received a favorable decision from 5 out of 6 members of the Parole Board, with the final grant date being December 31st, 2025. Despite this, he remains incarcerated as of September 1st, 2026.

Curtis has spent over 33 years in prison, a place he’s had ample time for reflection, growth, and transformation. During this period, he has shown remarkable change and accepted responsibility for his past actions. The granting of parole signifies acknowledgment of this transformation. So why is he still behind bars when he should be home, where a second chance at life is waiting?

Most importantly, Curtis's son, Markee Brooks, has been patiently waiting for his father’s return. Markee deserves to have his father in his life, to celebrate the daily joys and face life's challenges together as a family. Curtis's continued incarceration is not just a failure of the system; it is a profound emotional burden on those who love him.
