As a lifelong fan of Everton Football Club, I am deeply dismayed by the recent actions of the Premier League. The imposition of a disproportionate points deduction on Everton is just one example of how the league has failed to uphold its responsibilities as custodians of our beloved game. This decision not only impacts the club but also thousands of ordinary fans who have been sold out under the guise of entertainment.

The Premier League, in its desperate attempt to avoid proper regulation and scrutiny, has shown itself to be unfit for purpose. This is not an isolated incident; it's part of a broader pattern that raises serious questions about whether it can effectively manage and protect our national sport.

According to Deloitte’s Annual Review 2020, English football clubs generated £5.2bn in revenue during 2018/19 season (source: Deloitte). Yet despite this wealth, many fans feel increasingly alienated from their clubs due to decisions made by those at the top.

We are calling for a debate in Parliament on whether the Premier League has proved itself competent and fair. It's time for lawmakers to scrutinize these issues and ensure that football remains accessible and enjoyable for all fans across England.
