The intersection of U.S. Route 11 and County Route 55 (Cotey's Corner) in Lawrence, NY is a severe public safety hazard. It has a dark history of car crashes (an estimated one to two per year), including a recent traffic fatality with our very own Norman, Kaska, and DeShane families. To make matters worse, the original flashing caution light was destroyed months ago by an accident and has never been replaced, leaving drivers blind and vulnerable. We, the undersigned residents and commuters, demand that the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) immediately launch a traffic engineering evaluation to upgrade this crossing with a flashing red light or a permanent traffic control device before another life is lost. Specifically the light should be placed at the sight of the most recent accident, at the end of 55. In addition, the same warning should be placed at the intersection of 11C and 11.

My goal is to reach 200 signatures by June 10th, the day of the Town of Lawrence board meeting I have requested to speak at, but more are very much appreciated and will make this petition much more likely to succeed.
