I have personally been a victim of assault multiple times in Corpus Christi, TX. In my younger years, even for smaller offenses, the offender was consistently arrested against my refusal, given an Emergency Temporary Order (ETO) upon bond, and placed on probation. However, in the past four years, I have faced more serious violent incidents, requiring surgical intervention, only to witness offenders arrested but never officially booked or charged. Their records are sealed, and neighboring courts remain oblivious of their reoffending because of a stark lack of communication. I was never granted a Protective Order (P.O.), leaving me with no justice.

This is not just my story. It is the story of countless victims of assault and domestic violence who have found their voices silenced. Too many cases with undeniable facts and clear evidence are dismissed without even seeing the inside of a courtroom in our region. Our local DA's office is overwhelmed, resulting in offenders being set free without ETOs, regardless of the severity of charges or the violence involved. The system is failing to protect us and our community by not holding these perpetrators accountable.

The absence of adequate staffing in our District Attorney's office means that justice is unattainable for too many. We urgently need more prosecutors to ensure these cases are appropriately pursued, and victims receive the justice they deserve. Moreover, implementing the Batterers' Accountability and Prevention Program (BAPP) can provide a structured response to repeat offenders, reducing violence and enhancing victim safety.

Stand with me and with the victims of Corpus Christi. Insist on the hiring of additional prosecutors in our local DA's office and the immediate implementation of the BAPP program. Together, we can amplify the voices of those who have been silenced and demand a fundamental change in our justice system.
