My father, a resident of Monterey County, was a victim of elder financial abuse and wrongful death. Despite the clear violation of California Penal Code § 368 PC, which explicitly criminalizes such actions, the Monterey County Sheriff office and Monterey County District Attorney office have been complacent and derelict in their duties to enforce this law.

Elder financial abuse is not an isolated incident in our community. According to the National Council on Aging, approximately 1 in 10 Americans aged 60+ have experienced some form of elder abuse. Yet many cases go unreported due to fear or lack of awareness about available resources.

The lackadaisical approach by our local authorities towards these heinous crimes is unacceptable. It sends a message that those who prey on our most vulnerable citizens will face no consequences for their actions.

We demand that the Monterey County District Attorney's Office take all criminal elder financial abuse cases seriously and prosecute them fully under California Penal Code § 368 PC. This is not just about my father; it's about protecting all elders in our community from becoming victims.
