Demand Mod pips resignation as Jagex's CEO

The Issue

We, the dedicated players of RuneScape, urgently call for the resignation of Mod Pip from his position as Chief Executive Officer at Jagex. Throughout his tenure, his decisions have consistently undermined the community's trust, prioritized profit over player experience, and led to a decline in the game's integrity.

Overview of Mod Pip’s Tenure at Jagex

Mod Pip, also known as Phil Mansell, joined Jagex in 2011 or 2012. He initially served in senior positions within the Monetization Team, where he was instrumental in introducing microtransaction systems such as Solomon's General Store and Treasure Hunter. These initiatives marked a significant shift towards aggressive monetization strategies that many players viewed as detrimental to the game's core values.

In 2017, Mod Pip ascended to the role of Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, the company has continued to implement policies and updates that have been met with widespread criticism from the player base.

A History of Controversial Decisions

  • Introduction of Solomon's General Store and Treasure Hunter (2012-2013): These microtransaction systems allowed players to purchase in-game items and advantages with real money, leading to accusations of the game adopting pay-to-win mechanics. This shift not only disrupted the in-game economy but also alienated a significant portion of the player base.
  • Subscription Price Increase (2022): The decision to raise the subscription fee to $13.99 was implemented without adequate justification or corresponding improvements in game quality. This move was perceived as a blatant cash grab, further straining the relationship between Jagex and its community.
  • Tone-Deaf Monetization Surveys (2022-recent): The distribution of surveys focusing on additional monetization strategies, despite ongoing player dissatisfaction with existing microtransactions, demonstrated a clear disconnect between Jagex's leadership and its community. This approach signaled a prioritization of profit over player experience, exacerbating community unrest.
Impact on Community and Player Trust

Under Mod Pip's leadership, the relentless pursuit of monetization has eroded the foundational trust between Jagex and its players. The introduction of aggressive microtransactions and unjustified price hikes have led to a perception of the company as prioritizing revenue over the quality and integrity of the game. This has resulted in a fragmented community and a tarnished reputation for a once-revered game.

A Call for Change

To restore the integrity of Old School RuneScape and RuneScape 3, and to rebuild the fractured trust with its community, we, the undersigned, demand the immediate resignation of Mod Pip as CEO of Jagex. It is imperative that future leadership prioritizes player experience, transparency, and the core values that originally defined OldSchool Runescape.
