I am a proud Minnesotan, deeply connected to my state's heritage and history. The phrase "L'Étoile du Nord," meaning "The Star of the North," has been emblazoned on our state flag since 1858. It is more than just a motto; it is an integral part of our identity that has defined us for generations. Today, this cherished symbol is under threat by a redesign that seems driven more by propaganda than respect for our legacy.

Our flag represents not just a piece of cloth but the spirit and resilience of Minnesota. It stands as an emblem for those who have served this great state, including myself, and those who continue to do so today. To alter it feels like an attack on our shared history and values.

The proposed redesign disregards the importance of preserving historical symbols in favor of modern aesthetics or political correctness. This decision should not be taken lightly or without broad public consultation.

We must stand up against this change that threatens to erase part of what makes us uniquely Minnesotan. We call upon our elected officials in Minnesota to halt any plans for altering our beloved state flag immediately.
