Minister Robinson recently made shockingly offensive comments in a widely circulated video in which she: suggested that Israel was simply "offered" to the Jewish people;  referred to the land of Palestine as a "crappy piece of land with nothing on it", and dismissively glossed over the entire existence of the indigenous Palestinian people when she remarked “…..with, you know,  several hundred thousand people…..”

Not only were these comments completely ahistorical and derogatory, Minister Robinson’s flippant remarks reveal her xenophobic and supremacist worldview.  In fact, her comments were so offensive, that B’nai Brith Canada issued a statement saying, “B’nai Brith Canada was in no way responsible for the comments made by Minister Robinson and they do not reflect the opinion of our organization”.

Minister Robinson’s insincere apology failed to address the most offensive aspect of her statements, and  tried to pass off her comments as a simply poor choice of words. 

Public officials have an unequivocal duty to maintain impartiality, advocate for justice and empathize with the suffering of all human beings, regardless of race, creed, or religion.  

Our public officials are representatives of the collective values of the citizens of our great nation, and her egregious comments prove that she does not meet the standards of holding public office.
