Demand Microsoft Stop the Endless Noise Pollution at Fairwater Data Center
The Issue
More than 1,000 families in Sturtevant and Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, live within 1.5 miles of Microsoft's Fairwater data center — the facility CEO Satya Nadella calls "the world's most powerful AI data center." Residents say the noise runs day and night, floodlights have erased once-starry skies, and one neighbor changed his work shift just to sleep. A class-action lawsuit filed July 1 calls the noise "not only excessive, but consistent and pervasive," according to the filing.
Part of the problem: residents never got a real say. The land was zoned industrial back in 2017 under a deal with Foxconn, and that zoning simply carried over to Microsoft. Wisconsin law doesn't let towns like Sturtevant amend that ordinance directly, even though the Mount Pleasant Village Board has power to demand stronger conditions.
Microsoft spent $7.3 billion on this facility — it can afford real sound barriers, lighting limits, and a real say for the community before its next expansion. Sign the petition to demand Microsoft and Mount Pleasant officials fix the noise, light, and zoning problems harming Sturtevant families — before more sleepless nights and unanswered complaints.
