Demand Maximum Prosecution for Jake Davis and Justice for Seven Abused Dogs

Demand Maximum Prosecution for Jake Davis and Justice for Seven Abused Dogs
The Issue
Six dogs were locked in pens with no food and small amounts of contaminated rainwater. A seventh was tethered to a wooden dog house with nothing but a bowl of contaminated water. When investigators from the SPCA of Texas and the Hunt County Sheriff's Office arrived, all seven animals were in critical condition. Without immediate intervention, officials feared they would not survive.
Jake Stephen Davis was arrested on May 27 and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals, torture, a felony under Texas law. He is currently held in Hunt County Jail on a $150,000 bond. The investigation began only because a concerned citizen filed a complaint. No one knows how long these dogs suffered before that call was made.
The SPCA's medical team is now working to save the animals, providing emergency care while behavior specialists help them rebuild trust through gentle socialization. These dogs were not neglected by accident. They were starved and left to drink contaminated water while confined with no means of escape. That is torture.
We are calling on Hunt County prosecutors to pursue the maximum charges and sentence available under Texas law against Jake Davis, and on the court to impose a lifetime ban on animal ownership as a condition of any sentence. We are also calling on the Texas Legislature to strengthen animal torture statutes to ensure that cases like this result in meaningful prison time, not plea deals, and on Hunt County officials to establish proactive animal welfare inspection systems so that animals are never left to suffer until a citizen happens to notice.
Seven dogs nearly died waiting for someone to speak up for them. The justice system should not make them wait any longer.
