Demand Massachusetts Restore Protections for Unborn Babies After 24 Weeks
The Issue
Massachusetts recently changed its abortion law.
On August 10, 2026, Governor Maura Healey signed Chapter 188. Starting November 8, the law will remove several protections that were in place for abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy.
Before this change, an abortion after 24 weeks was only allowed in certain serious cases. These included when it was needed to protect the mother’s life or physical or mental health, or when the unborn baby had certain severe or deadly medical conditions.
Chapter 188 removes those specific limits. Instead, an abortion after 24 weeks may be performed based on a doctor’s professional judgment.
The law also removes other safeguards, including the general rule that these abortions be performed in an approved hospital and certain reporting requirements.
We believe Massachusetts should restore these protections.
The Bible teaches that every human being is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Psalm 139:13–16 describes God forming us in the womb, and Luke 1:41–44 speaks of John the Baptist as a baby while he was still in his mother’s womb.
Scripture also tells us to “open your mouth for the mute” and “defend the rights of the afflicted and needy” (Proverbs 31:8–9).
Unborn children cannot speak or defend themselves. Their lives deserve dignity, care, and protection.
Many people who sign this petition believe unborn children should be protected throughout pregnancy. This petition focuses on one immediate issue: Massachusetts should not remove protections that were already in place after 24 weeks.
We call on Massachusetts lawmakers and Governor Healey to reverse these changes and restore the law that existed before Chapter 188, including its limits on abortions after 24 weeks, hospital safeguards, and reporting requirements.
At the very least, Massachusetts should restore the protections it already had.
Sign this petition and speak up for unborn children who cannot speak for themselves.
