Demand Loyola University Chicago stop protecting Rapists
My name is Marissa Sepulveda and I was raped by a Loyola student in an upperclassman campus dorm on September 7th, 2019. Due to fear and trauma I remained quiet for 2 years, until finally reporting to the school in October of 2021. Loyola told me they would reach a decision on my case by December 2021, yet my case was not resolved until Friday, May 6th, 2022. Despite finding my rapist responsible for sexual misconduct, non consensual sexual contact, non consensual sexual penetration, dating and domestic violence, he will still be allowed to graduate with a degree. Loyola acknowledged that I was raped by a student yet only banned him from campus and pursuing further education at Loyola AFTER HE HAS RECEIVED HIS UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE. Loyola stated they are letting him graduate since they claim he finished his degree before he was found guilty yet the semester did not end until May 7th, meaning my case decision was made first. Despite dates and formalities, the fact this man was found guilty of rape should immediately disqualify him from receiving a degree for the protection of other victims. Yet Loyola has continued to make exceptions and delay my case for the sake of his degree and their image. I will not be silenced anymore and he still needs to be brought to justice.
I am hoping with mass support from Loyola students, faculty, parents and other concerned members of the community we can prevent Loyola from giving rapists preference and protection over survivors. My rapist graduates on May 12th and I am trying to generate enough publicity to stop him from receiving his undergraduate degree. Please support, share and reach out to Loyolas Title IX coordinator, Business Dean and OSCCR who are allowing my rapist to graduate, Tim Love- tlove@luc.edu, Maciek Nowak- mnowak4@luc.edu, OSCCR- osccr@luc.edu !
