I am a survivor of sexual assault. At the age of 15, my life was irrevocably altered by a predator who robbed me of my innocence and left me grappling with depression, anxiety, PTSD and nightly terrors. Now as a parent myself, I want to ensure that my daughter grows up in a safer world than the one I did.

Children are meant to have safe and happy childhoods. Yet our society continues to allow sexual predators back into our communities after serving minimal sentences. This is not only an affront to public safety but also jeopardizes our children's futures.

According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), every 73 seconds an American is sexually assaulted; yet only five out of every 1,000 perpetrators will end up in prison. These statistics are horrifying and unacceptable.

We must prioritize the safety and wellbeing of our children over the freedom of convicted sex offenders. It's time we demand that sexual predators be put away for life upon conviction - no more second chances at the expense of innocent lives.
