Demand Legislation Prohibiting Firework Sales at Retailers

Demand Legislation Prohibiting Firework Sales at Retailers
The Issue
I am a concerned citizen adversely affected by the sale of fireworks from all retailers. Like myself, many of us are victims of the nuisance created by fireworks, which frequently encourage antisocial behaviour disturbing otherwise calm neighbourhoods. Fireworks, while aesthetically pleasing, have far-reaching and harmful implications for both public health and society.
The nuisance is not the only concern we should have. Fireworks-related injuries range from burns to more significant injuries that require hospitalization, causing a strain on our medical resources. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in 2019, around 10,000 people were treated in hospital emergency departments for injuries associated with fireworks (CPSC, Fireworks Information Center).
Beyond human harm, the loud noises from fireworks distress local wildlife, disrupting their behaviours and causing considerable harm (RSPCA, Fireworks Frighten Animals and Birds).
This petition seeks to bring about legislative changes that altogether ban the sale of fireworks from retailers. Three out of four consumers support a ban on public usage of fireworks, indicating a broad public resonance with this issue (OmniPoll, Fireworks Survey).
It's time our lawmakers prioritise society and environmental wellbeing over transient amusement. Conscious change can only begin when laws change. Help us protect our communities, and wildlife from the harmful effects of fireworks; let's silence the crackers and speak volumes with the sign of our signatures. Please, sign this petition today.
