I am writing with a heavy heart and a deep concern for the well-being of the animals whose lives depend on us at the Worcester Humane Society, based in Berlin, Maryland. In the hands of Kelly Austin, our president, we, the dedicated staff and volunteers, have felt our voices silenced and our ideas dismissed when all we want is to improve the situation at the shelter. Then she terminates you for speaking out .She has fired all our great workers.

We believe we could do more to make the conditions at the shelter better for the animals we pledge to protect but our attempts have been disregarded time and again by Austin. We all want a leadership that listens, that allows an open forum for sharing and improving, and that prioritises the welfare of the animals above everything else.

Statistics show that shelters run by proactive and inclusive management often operate more efficiently and have higher adoption rates (source: Adoption and Pet Care Statistics, ASPCA). This is what we want for Worcester Humane Society.

To ensure the future of the shelter and the well-being of the animals, we are now calling for Kelly Austin to step down from her position as president. By doing so, we believe a more conducive environment for growth and development can be achieved for the betterment of the shelter and the lives of the animals we care for.
