Demand KCS to Stop Mandatory Physical Presence for Teachers on Virtual Learning Days

The Issue

I am a concerned citizen, and I have close friends - commendable individuals who have devoted their lives to shaping the future of our children - who work within Kanawha County Schools. These loved ones are being compelled to risk their lives by physically showing up on virtual learning days when the buildings are essentially empty. This rule does not only disregard their health and safety but also trivializes the very essence of "virtual teaching".

Teachers were informed if they cannot make it in the building for virtual learning days that they must take a personal day. These days are needed for sickness and appointments, not for staying home due to the impassable roads.

We ask for Kanawha County School's decision makers to respect our teachers' lives - their right to safety and wellbeing. We implore you to revise this policy and allow educators to perform their roles remotely on virtual learning days, for their sake and that of our community. Please sign this petition and help us advocate for the health and safety of our beloved teachers.

Bus drivers are also made to come into the garages on non-traditional days. They sit at the garage and if they cannot make it in they must take a personal day.

All service personnel has been given the same direction. They come in due to their contracts or they give up PTO.

Make it make sense when there are no children on roads or in buildings.
