Demand Justice System Reforms to End Racial Bias
The Issue
The justice system is unfair and unbalanced. They deserved to still be with us and here with us. But the way our justice system is set up, it’s made to be against us in every form and fashion.
You can’t even be a baby anymore whose mom had a receipt, down to playing in the park alone, to going home at night and thinking you can sleep safely in your bed.
God forbid you want a snack and you’re unalived on the way to the store for having expired tags. Or while in the store thinking you wanted a bottle of water but putting it back.
Yes, it’ll forever be that serious.
Because when we’re minding our own business, walking down the street with a hoodie on and headphones in, someone is still watching you. Someone is out there on that phone lying on you to the point you’re beaten to death because blue eyes and blonde hair said he did it.
Yes, it’s that serious.
Because blonde hair and blue eyes said that money was not real. A man yelled for his mommy, I can’t breathe, and get off of me, you’re going to kill me for 10 mins straight while nobody helped.
Because for far too long, the words of some have been valued more than the lives of others. Because accusations have been believed without question, while our humanity has been questioned at every turn.
Every time I think about Kohen Wiley, Cyrus Carmack-Belton, and George Floyd, Tamir Rice and so many others, I can’t help but feel the weight of an unjust system that’s been rigged against us. Those names represent lives cut short, lives that deserved justice and protection, not cold neglect. Our justice system, as it stands, seems designed to work against people of color at every twist and turn. It’s heartbreaking and infuriating that even the simplest actions like walking with headphones or buying a snack can lead to devastating outcomes.
Enough is enough. It’s unacceptable that we still face racial bias at every level of the system, from law enforcement to courts. These structures have been set up not to serve and protect, but to surveil and oppress. The tragic stories of people being harmed or losing their lives happen too often and for no good reason. The system values certain voices over others and allows accusations based on prejudice to determine the fate of too many. This must change.
Juneteenth reminds us of the freedom we should all celebrate, yet it also highlights an incomplete story; freedom means nothing without justice. Reforming these biased justice structures is essential to achieving true equality. We need transparent investigations, accountability measures, and policies that prioritize fairness over discrimination. The change is overdue.
Let’s demand a justice system where no one fears for their life because of who they are. We need comprehensive reforms that promise safety, fairness, and life opportunities for everyone in our community. Sign this petition to join us in demanding justice system reforms to end racial bias and ensure that every life truly matters.
