Growing up as an Ethiopian woman, I was painfully aware of the rampant injustices and brutality that Ethiopian women and girls endure daily. I have witnessed too many of my sisters become victims of horrendous acts of violence, including rape and abuse, only to see their perpetrators walk free without any repercussions.

The names Keneni, Zewdu, and Haven are just a few examples in a heartbreaking list of countless women and girls in Ethiopia who have faced and continue to face atrocities that would leave anyone shattered. As I pen this plea, my entire being is consumed with anguish over the endless reports of rape, murders, and suffering.

Despite repeated attempts to bring attention to this issue, the grim situation persists unchecked. Those responsible for these heinous acts often evade accountability, leaving victims silenced and suffering, while potential life-saving interventions remain absent. It is unacceptable and unjust.

I respectfully urge the Ethiopian Government to take immediate, decisive action. This is a call to end the pervasive culture of violence against women and girls in Ethiopia and to ensure that every abuser is held accountable for their crimes. Justice must become a reality, not just an empty promise.

We must stand firm in the belief that every life matters, every victim deserves justice, and that meaningful change begins with action. The government has the power to enforce legal measures that protect our women and girls, to fund and support survivors, and to ensure judicial reforms that leave no room for perpetrators to go free.
