Demand Justice for Victims of TOEIC English Language Test Scandal

The Issue

We are a group of students, victims of the TOEIC English language test scandal that has unjustly marred our names and ruined our future. Our dreams and ambitions were shattered when we were accused of cheating in our exams, despite our innocence.

The harrowing impact of this scandal is staggering. Over 33,725 students, mostly from ethnic minority backgrounds, were accused of cheating on exams administered by Educational Testing Services (ETS) between 2011 and 2014, following a BBC Panorama investigation. These allegations resulted in many students being deported, banned from further studies, or driven to suicide, completely ruining their future prospects ("TOEIC - the biggest UK immigration scandal you've never heard of", Migrants Organise, 2020).

The lives of innocent and hardworking students should not be ruined based on unfounded allegations and questionable investigative methods. We do not only want to clear our names, but we also demand justice, transparency, and reform in the handling of such investigations, so no student has to undergo such trauma in the future.

We call upon the UK Home Office, ETS, and all relevant authorities to revisit these cases, provide justice to those unjustly accused, and to rectify the erroneous system that allowed this travesty to happen in the first place. We proclaim our innocence and demand the restitution of our tarnished reputations. Stand alongside us in our fight for justice – for us, for our futures, for the future of education. Please sign this petition in solidarity.
