Our city is in the throes of a heartbreaking crime. Like many of you reading this, my family's life was utterly devastated by the brutal murder of our loved-one, the father of my children and my lifelong best friend. He was not just a friend or a parent, he was family. He was left to die by four individuals, 3 of whom are not facing murder charges or even being named as accessories to the murder. This story is a chilling reminder of the sinister injustice occurring within our legal system.

Painfully, this is not an isolated incident. Across our nation, only 61.4% of murder and non-negligent manslaughter cases were cleared by arrest or other means in 2019, according to FBI data. On a local level, our city's statistics reflect a similarly bleak reality. This insufficient action in response to such grievous crimes is unthinkable and unacceptable.

Our petition calls for an overhaul in how our local law enforcement and justice system address horrific crimes such as these. We demand action to close the gap in justice, and we won’t stop until we see a significant change.
