The Issue

As a parent to a six-year-old girl, I am deeply affected by the tragic and senseless death of Jalayah Eason. It is unimaginable that any child should have to endure verbal, physical, and emotional abuse especially from their own mother. My heart breaks for Jalayah and her siblings. I hope that bringing awareness to this ongoing case brings justice to this sweet angel who was taken from this world way too soon.

Evidence suggests that she was abused at the hands of her mother Lynija Eason. Child abuse is an alarming issue in our society with approximately 700,000 children abused in the U.S each year (source: National Children's Alliance). This case highlights an urgent need for stricter laws and better protection mechanisms for our children.

We cannot let Jalayah's death be in vain. We must raise awareness about her story so no other child has to suffer like she did. Let us demand justice for Jalayah and work towards creating a safer environment for all children.

Please sign this petition if you believe in justice for innocent lives like Jalayah's lost too soon due to child abuse.

INVESTIGATION DETAILS:

Jalayah Eason autopsy report has not been shared as of march 2024 because the investigation is going on even though Jalayah died on May 28th 2023. So, everyone is awaiting Eason's autopsy. After the report, it will help determine if homicide charges are warranted in the case. As of now, Eason's mom is charged with child endangerment for neglecting and harming her other two kids.

Things to know about the case:

Ronald Branch has been fighting for custody so he can bury Jelayah Eason and adopt her 8-year-old brother

After Jelayah's death, her mother, Lynija Eason, was charged with child endangerment over allegations concerning her surviving children. Police entering the apartment found it infested with insects and full of garbage and rotting food.

Records show ACS determined allegations of abuse were "unfounded" last fall but opened a new case in March after the children were allegedly left home alone.

On May 12 records show caseworkers conducted a virtual visit where the "mother and children were seen," but the next attempted visit on May 17th was "unsuccessful." Jelayah died on May 28th.

At 4 a.m. on May 28th, police officers found her at home bruised and unconscious. Her mother, Lynija Eason, had called 911. She was pronounced dead less than an hour later at Lincoln Hospital.

The doctor on duty noted that she had “fresh abrasions under her left arm, scar-like markings to her wrists and back and multiple bruises, and old lacerations,” and that her mother had “no explanation to the injuries.”

“I thought my children were fine,” Ronald Branch, the father who didn’t live with them, said.

Rest in peace Jalayah & I hope justice is served in her memory. ❤
