Demand Justice for Tevin Sutton, Wrongfully Convicted in Port Huron, MI
The Issue
In 2014, Tevin Sutton was shot by two Port Huron Police Officers in an unlawful traffic stop. Per dash cam video and body cam video officers are seen and heard being screaming and brandishing weapons upon initial contact. Mr. Sutton was given contradicting and impossible commands by the unprofessional rash officers. Unable to adhere to the contradicting commands the officers shot Mr. Sutton twice through his windshield. Mr. Sutton had no weapons on person or in the vehicle. He was dragged out of the car, while officers scream to stop resisting, they beat him repeatedly. From this beating his left rib was cracked and he suffered a collapsed lung accompanied with internal bleeding from the gunshot wound to the center of his chest. He barely made it, but did survive. He was then charged with several counts of assault. Shockingly he was wrongfully convicted in 2015 for allegedly attempting to kill Port Huron Police Officers. Despite the lack of concrete evidence and questionable circumstances surrounding his conviction, he remains incarcerated. A professional investigator hired by his supporters has spent two years meticulously examining this case and has determined that Mr. Sutton is innocent. A pardon application has been filed with the parole board on his behalf. All the new evidence supporting his innocence has been submitted as an attachment.
However, we need your support to show the parole board that Mr. Sutton's innocence is recognized and supported by the community. Your signature can help rectify this miscarriage of justice and bring an innocent man back home where he belongs.
According to The National Registry of Exonerations (University of Michigan Law School), as many as 6% of all prisoners in the U.S are likely innocent - a chilling statistic that highlights how crucial it is for us to take action now.
Please join us in our fight for justice; sign this petition to demand a fair review of Tevin Sutton's case by the parole board!
