Demand Justice for Stone Academy Students and Reformation of CT's Higher Education System

Demand Justice for Stone Academy Students and Reformation of CT's Higher Education System
The Issue
My dream was to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. I paid out of pocket, trusting Stone Academy to prepare me for my State Boards. However, on February 14, 2023, the school abruptly closed its doors leaving over 800 students like me unable to graduate or take the CT state boards. We were deceived by Stone Academy which misused funds and kept inaccurate records of classroom and clinical hours.
The Office of Higher Education in Connecticut has not provided us with any teach-out options or support. Instead, they have stonewalled us - a clear failure on their part towards the students they are supposed to protect
We demand answers and a teach-out plan for every student not just a few.
This is not just about our dreams being shattered but also about the impact it has on our healthcare system which is already understaffed. As current medical professionals, we understand how crucial nurses are in providing quality care to patients who deserve nothing less.
We demand justice for all affected students and urge an investigation into Stone Academy's practices and a reevaluation of the Office of Higher Education's policies in Connecticut. It is time that these institutions be held accountable for their failures so that no other student has to experience what we have gone through.
It will be a year in a couple of weeks and we have been left high and dry with no answers and no hope.
Please sign this petition if you believe in justice for all students and reforming higher education systems that fail them.
Reasons to support the cause:
- CT Needs Nurses.
- We invested in Stone who failed us. The Office of Higher Education should invest in us
- The Office of Higher Education needs to speak up - They have been silent and ignoring us since the Summer of 2023
- No other schools will accept our credits- The OHE should support other LPN programs to take our credits
- Reevaluate Higher Education policies
The Office of Higher Education:
The Office carries out its mission by assuring that students have access to postsecondary institutions which meet the highest standards of academic quality, by administering the state’s student financial aid programs, and by serving as an information and consumer protection resource.
