The Issue

The Auburn community is grieving the brutal killing of Dr. Julie Gard Schnuelle, a retired Auburn University professor and beloved member of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Schnuelle was walking her dog at Kiesel Park — a popular gathering place less than five miles from campus — when she was attacked and killed. Her truck was stolen.

The suspect, identified as Harold Rashad Dabney III, has been arrested and charged in connection with the murder. He is being held without bond at the Lee County Jail. But for the family of Dr. Schnuelle, her colleagues, her students, and the Auburn community, the fight for justice is just beginning.

Dr. Schnuelle dedicated her life to education, service, and care for animals. To lose her in such a violent, senseless way is an attack not just on her, but on the entire Auburn family. This community deserves to know that the man accused of this heinous act will face the full weight of the law.

We call on Lee County District Attorney Jessica Ventiere, Auburn Police Chief Cedric Anderson, and the Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall to prosecute this case to the fullest extent possible. There must be no leniency for violence of this magnitude. The Auburn community must see accountability and justice carried out swiftly.

We also call for renewed attention to safety in public parks like Kiesel Park. Residents must feel secure walking their dogs or enjoying outdoor spaces without fear of violence.

Dr. Schnuelle gave so much to Auburn through her teaching, her research, and her service. Honoring her memory means standing up for justice, demanding accountability, and protecting the safety of every resident.

Add your name if you believe Auburn must deliver justice for Dr. Julie Schnuelle and ensure our parks and neighborhoods are safe for all.
