Demand Justice for Ghost: Reform Dog Shooting Policies & Return Ghost After 25 Weeks!
The Issue
My dog Ghost was shot dead outside our family home. The police claim they received a call alleging that Ghost had bitten someone, but now that he is gone, there is no witness to back up this claim. I am disputing the lawfulness of the shooting. In response, the officer claims he shot my dog because Ghost supposedly fixated on him and charged. However, it is important to note that there were multiple members of the public present who were unharmed. Moreover, the body cam footage contradicts the officer’s statement, yet he persists with his version of events.
South Yorkshire police have now applied for the officer who shot ghost to remain anonymous. This explains why I was arrested under suspicion of witness intimidation for pleading to the public to identify him so I can ensure he looses his job and is seen before the courts.
This tragedy should not be dismissed without further investigation and appropriate legal scrutiny. There is a pressing need for police accountability and justice for Ghost. Officers should face the courts if they use firearms unjustifiably. Additionally, educating officers to eliminate discrimination against specific dog breeds is crucial.
Breed-specific legislation often results in unfair treatment, and legislative change is long overdue. We must demand South Yorkshire Police to return Ghost's body promptly to bring closure to us as his grieving family. We also need to address and end breed-specific legislation.
Help us establish the 'Ghost Act' in legislation to require transparency in cases of police shootings of dogs, ensuring accountability and advocating for non-lethal interventions.
Sign this petition to stand against unjustified use of force against our loyal companions and fight for systemic changes in how police interact with dogs.
