Demand Justice for farmer – Stop the Unfair Land Acquisition by IOCL

The Issue

We, the undersigned, stand in support of Malireddi Varahala Satyanarayana, a hardworking farmer from Tuni Mandal, Kakinada District, Andhra Pradesh, who is facing unfair treatment and fraudulent actions by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). Malireddi’s land, which is his only source of livelihood, is being unjustly impacted by IOCL’s pipeline project.

The Issue:

In August 2020, IOCL representatives approached Malireddi to inform him about the petroleum pipeline passing through his land. They promised to acquire 10 meters of land, provided compensation cheques, and asked him to sign documents. Malireddi, who is uneducated, trusted their actions but was unaware of the full contents of the documents he signed.

Subsequently, IOCL took

10 meters of land, but removed trees, including mango and coconut trees that had been planted long before the pipeline’s installation. Recently, IOCL agents returned and falsely claimed that Satyanarayana had planted these trees after the pipeline was laid. They even raised complaints against him, causing unnecessary tension and distress.

Key Issues:

Discrepancy in Land Acquisition: IOCL’s notice claims an acquisition of 18 meters of land, but Satyanarayana only signed for 10 meters. There is a clear inconsistency between what was agreed upon and what IOCL is attempting to claim.

Unfair Claims About Tree Planting: IOCL is falsely accusing Satyanarayana of planting trees after the pipeline installation. In reality, these trees were planted at least 3 to 4 years before the pipeline project began.

Intimidation and Harassment: IOCL’s agents have caused unnecessary stress and tension by repeatedly visiting Satyanarayana, creating confusion and forcing him to sign documents without proper understanding.

Violation of Fair Compensation: The land acquisition process has been carried out without Satyanarayana proper consent, and the compensation provided does not align with the value of the land lost.

Our Demands:

We call on IOCL to:

Clarify the discrepancies in the land acquisition documents and ensure the land acquired is only the 10 meters agreed upon, not the 18 meters they are now claiming.

Reassess the claim regarding tree planting, and acknowledge that the trees were planted before the pipeline was installed, as evidenced by their age.

Cease all harassment and intimidation of Satyanarayana and any further actions that threaten his livelihood and peace of mind.

Provide fair and just compensation for the land acquired, in line with its true value and the damage caused to Satyanarayana agricultural livelihood.

Why This Matters:

Malireddi Varahala Satyanarayana is just one of many farmers whose livelihoods are at risk due to unjust land acquisitions and corporate exploitation. It is essential that we hold organizations like IOCL accountable for their actions and ensure that they respect the rights of farmers, particularly those who are vulnerable and uneducated.

By signing this petition, we demand justice for Malireddi Varahala Satyanarayana and all other farmers who face similar situations.
