In a tragic event that occurred on July 14, 2024, my friends son, Fabian Martinez, became the victim of a heart-wrenching hit and run incident that ended his life prematurely. The driver of the other vehicle, left the scene without the slightest regard for the life he'd just ended. Upon discovering the identity of the driver, police officers sought the responsible party at his residence, where it was admitted that the father had been in control of his son's vehicle at the time of the incident.

A key witness provided his statement to the officers on scene. Despite all of these supporting pieces of evidence, we find ourselves grappling against an unbelievable reality. The Bell Gardens Police Dept has failed in doing a proper investigation which includes interrogations of all involved. The District Attorney's office has irresponsibly dropped all charges against the defendant, who is now free and void of any legal consequences.

Every year, approximately 20% of fatal auto accidents are classified as hit-and-run; and sadly my friends son Fabian is now an agonizing statistic in this cruel reality. An abrupt dismissal of charges in such a grave matter only fuels a cycle of impunity that undermines public safety.

We call upon the Bell Gardens, CA police department and the City District Attorney’s office to understand the depth of our distress and honor the memory of Fabian by reopening this case. We beg that this incident is treated with the seriousness it warrants, chasing not just retribution, but justice for Fabian and all victims of similar atrocities. He leaves behind 2 beautiful daughters.
