Demand Justice for Esha: Take Action Against Cyber Bullying In Klang
The Issue
I’m Meera, I am a woman in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia who has been affected by cyberbullying too. It's a horrifying experience that pushes me to write this. Like myself, Esha was targeted too, and it is time we stand in solidarity to demand justice for her.
Cyberbullies are criminals, hiding behind their screens, inflicting harm upon innocent people who deserve nothing but empathy and kindness. This is a malignant issue, as a survey by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) reported 64.8% of Malaysian students have experienced cyberbullying (Source: MCMC Report 2020). Hence, this is not just about Esha or me alone. This is about every individual that has suffered, or is still suffering at the hands of cyberbullying.
We cannot let these criminals walk without consequence. The torment they inflict has severe, sometimes fatal repercussions, and their actions cannot go unchecked. We need to fight for stricter enforcement of The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which offers inadequately light punishments for such heinous offenses.
I share my story not for pity or recognition, but to shed light on the pervasive issue of cyberbullying in our society, to shine as a beacon for others who feel lost, and to rally the support needed to bring about change starting with justice for Esha.
Everyone in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia and beyond, YOUR SIGNATURE MATTERS. Stand with me, with Esha, with every silent victim in our fight against cyberbullying. Sign our petition to demand justice for Esha and compel our government to enact stronger measures against cyberbullying.
