My sister was one of the abused patients, and we sadly lost her only a few months after the discovery of what had happened. She, along with other vulnerable individuals, fell victim to a carer in Northern Ireland who shared degrading photos of them in their most vulnerable final months, when they were unable to defend themselves due to dementia. The betrayal by someone entrusted with their care is not just appalling but a deep violation of their dignity and trust.

Despite the severity of this breach, the carer responsible received only a meagre punishment of 100 hours of community service and 2 years of probation. For such a grave violation, this sentence is not just lenient; it is an insult to the victims and their families. Those who exploit and abuse the vulnerable should face sentences that reflect the seriousness of their crimes.
