The Issue

An unimaginable crime has struck our community. A sweet, innocent 7-years old girl, simply known as Cwecwe, was brutally raped on her school premises by an older man. This isn't just an assault on Cwecwe, but also on some of the most fundamental human rights that every child should enjoy - safety, respect, and dignity.

The incident has shaken us to the core, causing us to question the security and wellbeing of our children in the places considered safe for them. Studies have consistently shown that experiencing child sexual abuse has a long-lasting, often devastating impact on mental health, leading to depression, anxiety and even suicidal ideation (American Psychological Association).

We have a strong commitment to bringing justice for Cwecwe but also drawing attention to the pervasive issue of child sexual abuse within our educational institutions. Prosecuting the perpetrator is the first step in addressing this serious issue. However, we also urge authorities to conduct a thorough assessment of schools' safety measures in South Africa, implementing stricter regulations for adult interaction with children within these spaces.

Help us stand against the violation of our children's rights and wellbeing. Sign this petition to demand justice for Cwecwe and stronger protection measures for children within our schools.
