Demand Justice for Avianca, Detrihanna, Rashaunda, and Bennisha
The Issue
On July 9, 2010, a tragic car crash claimed the lives of three young individuals: Avianca Cortez (13), Detrihanna Davis (13), and Rashaunda Raleigh (12). This horrifying incident not only took these precious lives but also had a devastating impact on their families. The tragedy deepened when Detrihanna's step- sister Bennisha, a survivor of the crash, succumbed to her grief and took her own life less than two months later. The ripple effects of this tragedy continue to be felt within the Houston community to this day.
The man charged in connection with this case, Sajan Timalshina, fled the United States 15 years ago and is currently residing in Nepal. Despite the warrants and the urgency of the case, the Nepalese government has not yet released him into U.S. custody. This lack of action sends a disheartening message to the families of the victims who are still seeking justice for their loved ones.
We are calling upon the Nepalese Goverment and Department of Justice to renew their efforts and work with international authorities to ensure that Sajan Timalshina is extradited to the United States to face the charges against him. The families of Avianca, Detrihanna, Rashaunda, and Detrihanna's sister Bennisha deserve justice and closure after years of suffering.
We urge the U.S. Department of Justice to engage in diplomatic discussions with the Nepalese authorities to stress the importance of extradition in this case. Extradition treaties exist to ensure that individuals cannot evade accountability for their actions, especially in cases where lives have been lost. The families affected by this tragedy deserve the chance to see justice served, and the broader community needs to see that such actions will not be tolerated.
We appeal to everyone who stands against injustice to support this cause. By signing this petition, you are contributing to a call for justice and supporting the four young lives that were tragically cut short. It's time for justice to be served for Avianca, Detrihanna, Rashaunda, and Bennisha and all affected by this tragedy. Let us stand together and demand accountability. Please sign this petition and help us bring Sajan Timalshina back to the U.S. to face trial for his actions. Your support can make a difference and help the families find peace after years of grief.
