I am a resident of Laguna, Philippines and I am deeply affected by the rampant cases of animal cruelty happening in our locality. Animals are sentient beings that deserve respect and protection. It is disheartening to witness such atrocities committed against them.

In the Philippines, Republic Act No. 8485 or The Animal Welfare Act of 1998 protects animals from cruelty, maltreatment or neglect. Yet despite this law being in place for over two decades now, there are still numerous instances where it is blatantly disregarded.

According to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), they receive an average of 40 reports per month related to animal abuse nationwide. This alarming rate shows that more needs to be done not just in enforcing existing laws but also in educating people about proper animal care and welfare.

We urge local authorities in Laguna to take immediate action on reported cases of animal cruelty and ensure strict enforcement of RA 8485. We also call on schools and community organizations to promote education on animal welfare rights among residents.
