Demand Justice and Safer Workplace For Doctors

The Issue

We, the undersigned, resident doctors across India, express our deep concern and outrage over the deteriorating working conditions and safety of resident doctors. The recent, horrific incident in Bengal, where a resident doctor was brutally assaulted and raped, is a stark reminder of the grave dangers we face daily.
This incident is not an isolated occurrence but a symptom of a systemic failure to prioritize the safety and well-being of resident doctors. We are overworked, understaffed, and exposed to immense physical and emotional stress. The culture of long, often uninterrupted duty hours leaves us vulnerable to exhaustion, medical errors, and personal attacks.
We demand immediate and concrete action from the [National Medical Organization] to address the following:
 * Mandatory Reduction of Duty Hours: Implement strict regulations limiting the number of continuous duty hours for resident doctors to ensure adequate rest and prevent burnout.
 * Enhanced Workplace Safety: Provide adequate security measures in hospitals, including CCTV surveillance, emergency alarms, and trained security personnel.
 * Zero-Tolerance Policy for Violence: Establish a strict policy of zero tolerance for violence against healthcare professionals, with swift and severe consequences for perpetrators.
 * Psychological Support: Provide access to mental health counseling and support services for resident doctors to cope with the immense stress and trauma of the job.
 * Fair Compensation and Benefits: Ensure fair compensation and benefits for resident doctors, recognizing the demanding nature of their work.
We urge the [National Medical Organization] to take immediate steps to create a safer and more supportive work environment for resident doctors. The lives and well-being of countless healthcare professionals and patients depend on it.
We call upon all concerned citizens, medical professionals, and policymakers to join us in demanding a safer workplace for resident doctors.
